A Framework for Transformation in Community
This container honors your inherent wholeness while creating space for all parts of you to be seen, heard, understood, and integrated. These principles describe both how we engage with each other and what we believe about transformation itself.
HOW WE SHOW UP: THE 10 C'S
These qualities aren't rules to follow, but capacities to cultivate. They emerge naturally when we're in Self-leadership, and practicing them helps us access more Self-energy.
CURIOSITY
We approach all parts of ourselves and others with genuine curiosity, not judgment.
Curiosity is our core stance—it makes it safe to look at anything. We ask questions instead of making assumptions. We wonder about our reactions, our patterns, our parts. "What is this part trying to show me?" becomes more powerful than "Why am I like this?"
Remember: Curiosity over judgment. We practice discernment, not judgment.
CALM
We create spaciousness before reactivity.
In this container, we practice pausing before responding. We recognize that calm is not the absence of emotion, but the presence of centeredness. When we notice activation, we breathe, we ground, we come back to Self. The body knows before the mind understands—we trust our capacity to find stillness within the storm.
Remember: Somatic awareness is a valid and valuable form of knowing.
COMPASSION
We extend kindness and understanding to all parts of ourselves and others.
There is no such thing as 'doing it wrong' in here. Every part of us developed for a reason—usually to protect us. We practice holding ourselves with the same tenderness we would offer someone we deeply love. Compassion creates the safety needed for our most vulnerable parts to emerge. We meet another's parts with compassion, while recognizing them as parts of a wholeness that is larger than any single behavior.
Remember: Permission to be imperfect. We are always works in progress, shaped by biology, history, and choice.
CLARITY
We seek to see ourselves and our situations clearly, without distortion.
What we can name, we can work with. We practice distinguishing between our parts and our Self, between story and truth, between what is and what we fear. We welcome clarity through what we don't want as much as through what we do want. Clarity emerges when we're willing to encounter ourselves in truth.
Remember: We gain clarity through what we don't want. The process of elimination is a valid path to knowing.
CONFIDENCE
We trust in our inherent capacity to heal and grow.
We are the creators of our story and our lives. Self knows how to hold this and move forward with confidence. This confidence isn't about having all the answers—it's about trusting the process and our own inner wisdom. When we know ourselves more deeply, we can trust ourselves more deeply. We move forward even in the face of uncertainty, because we trust our Self to guide us.
Remember: We are the creators of our story, our self, and our lives. Our beliefs shape our attention, our attention shapes our actions, and our actions shape our outcomes.
COURAGE
We face what we're afraid of, knowing we're in a safe space to do so.
Courage means staying with something for the teaching, even when it's uncomfortable. The discomfort, the pain, the uncertainty—these are doorways to growth. Our instinct is to move away from discomfort, but these are often the very places where the most important learning lives. We understand that transformation requires entering the doorways of discomfort. We are here to meet ourselves in truth and allow growth to blossom from this meeting.
Remember: The thing you are most afraid of is the thing to face. You are in a safe space to do this—this is what we are here to do.
CREATIVITY
We remain open to new possibilities and ways of being.
Growth is not linear—it's often a sine wave with a trajectory toward maturation. Like a long-term investment account, it oscillates up and down in the short term, but the overall trend line moves upward. We embrace experimentation, knowing that there are infinite ways to solve problems, heal wounds, and reimagine our lives. Creativity flourishes when we give ourselves permission to experiment, be imperfect, and try new approaches.
Remember: What looks like regression is often consolidation. What feels like stagnation may be underground root development. Trust the process even when you can't see the progress.
CONNECTEDNESS
We heal in connection, not isolation.
Transformation happens in relationship—with ourselves and with others. We practice becoming intimate with our parts—our thoughts, beliefs, assumptions, and fears. We practice staying connected to the larger web of relationships around us. We recognize that we are both complete within ourselves and enriched by authentic connection with others.
Remember: Decades of research confirm we are wired for connection and learn best in community. Isolation activates threat responses that shut down our capacity for change, while connection creates the safety needed for risk-taking and transformation.
CHOICE
We honor our agency and the power to choose our response.
In every moment, we have the power to choose—how we respond, what we explore, how deep we go. Your pace is the right pace. In Parts work we lean in to listen to the slowest parts of us. You choose what to share, what to explore, and when to pause. This container exists to support your choices, not to override them. True transformation happens when we reclaim our agency and recognize that we always have choice, even when our options feel limited.
Remember: There is no timeline for growth. Move at the speed that honors your process.
CONFIDENTIALITY
What is shared in this container stays in this container.
Trust is the foundation of deep work. We hold what is shared here with sacredness and respect. This confidentiality creates the safety needed for vulnerability, for facing what we're most afraid of, and for encountering ourselves in truth.
Our agreements:
- Class sessions will be recorded for use by our founding cohort only. Please do not share these recordings beyond the founding cohort.
- Opaloka, LLC reserves the right to use these videos solely for the internal training of future Abundant Self facilitators. We will exclusively analyze facilitation techniques, not personal content, and will maintain the strict confidentiality of all participant information.
- You are welcome to speak to others in your life about your experience in the group coaching container, but please leave others' experiences for them to tell.
- Please ask permission if you would like to reference another's story or experience shared previously in the group before doing so in your own sharing.
This commitment to confidentiality extends both ways—honoring the sanctity of this space allows us to be fully present and authentic without fear of exposure or judgment beyond these walls.
WHAT WE BELIEVE ABOUT TRANSFORMATION
We are growing ourselves by becoming more relational.
Parts and Systems work shows us that our inner conflicts are actually conversations between different parts of ourselves. Internal Family Systems call them protectors, exiles, managers, and firefighters—each trying to help us in its own way. When we meet our parts with the qualities of Self (the 10 C's above), we create internal relationships instead of internal wars. These subpersonalities live inside of all of us, but look and behave differently based on what we adopted or adapted to from our younger years.
Our parts don't need to be eliminated or controlled; they need to be heard, accepted, and befriended.
When our parts feel met with curiosity and acceptance rather than judgment, they can relax their extreme stances, unburden, and work together. We grow by being in relationship with all of ourselves. We need to become intimate with our parts—our thoughts, beliefs, assumptions, and fears. When we know ourselves more deeply, we can trust ourselves more deeply. We can have a more authentic conversation with our younger parts and give them roles more appropriate for their maturity level.
RESISTANCE IS INFORMATION, NOT OBSTACLE
What we resist often points us toward what needs attention. When you notice resistance—the desire to avoid, to disappear, to attack, to accommodate—get curious instead. What is this part protecting you from? What old story is getting activated?
Carl Jung taught us that what we resist persists; what we stay with transforms. When we deny or push away parts of ourselves—the shame, the fear, the "unacceptable" patterns—we give them more power. But when we turn toward them with curiosity and compassion, they can integrate and release their grip.
The willingness to stay, to not collapse or flee, is where real change happens. Discomfort is not a problem to solve but a signal that you are growing and at the edge of your own becoming.
WE ARE HERE TO ENCOUNTER OURSELVES, IN TRUTH
This container exists for one primary purpose: to support you in meeting yourself fully and honestly. Not the version of yourself you perform for others. Not the one you wish you were. The one that's actually here—with all the protective patterns, inherited stories, shame, brilliance, and capacity for growth.
When we encounter ourselves in truth, transformation becomes possible.
HOW THESE PRINCIPLES CREATE OUR CONTAINER
When we lead from Self—embodying these qualities—we co-create a container where:
✓ All parts of us are welcome
✓ Resistance is information, not an obstacle
✓ Your pace is the right pace
✓ Growth happens in its own time and way
✓ We are growing our parts by understanding and becoming relational with them
✓ Discomfort is a doorway, not a dead end
✓ Community holds us when we want to run
✓ We trust the non-linear path of transformation
Again, these principles are not rules to follow, but capacities to cultivate. They emerge naturally when we are in Self-leadership, and practicing them helps us access more Self-energy.
Welcome to The Abundant Self. We're so glad you're here!
